Good to know before you paddle.

Is my booking confirmed when I submit the form?
No. The form sends us a booking request. We’ll review your preferred date, time and kayak selection and contact you to confirm whether they’re available. Your booking is only confirmed once you hear back from us.
Do I need to pay when I submit my request?
No payment is required when you send your booking request. Once we’ve approved your request and confirmed availability, we’ll contact you separately to arrange payment.
Do I need kayaking experience?
No. Our kayaks are intended for recreational use and beginners are welcome. We’ll explain the basic setup before you head out.
What’s included with the hire?
Your kayak, paddle and suitable lifejacket are included in the hire price.
Where do I collect the kayak?
We’ll meet you at our designated meeting point at Lillydale Lake. Exact meeting instructions will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.
Do I need to transport the kayak?
No. We bring your confirmed kayaks to Lillydale Lake and collect them after your hire. This makes the service particularly easy if you’re visiting the Yarra Valley and don’t have your own transport equipment.
What age children use the kids’ kayaks?
Kids’ kayaks are available for younger paddlers and must be used under responsible adult supervision. Suitability also depends on the individual kayak’s size and capacity. We recommend a minimum age of six years old, however a younger kayaker could ride aboard the double adult kayak.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions aren’t suitable for kayaking, we may need to reschedule or cancel your hire. We’ll contact you if conditions mean your confirmed booking can’t safely go ahead.
Can I just turn up without requesting a booking?
No. Lilydale Kayak Hire is a mobile hire service, so kayaks are brought to the lake specifically for confirmed bookings. Please send a booking request before travelling to the lake.
Can I hire several kayaks for my family or group?
Absolutely. You can request adult singles, our adult double and kids’ kayaks in the same booking request, subject to availability.
What should I bring?
Wear comfortable clothing suitable for getting wet. We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, drinking water, sunglasses, a towel and a change of clothes if you’d like one.
How long can I hire a kayak for?
You can request either an up-to-two-hour hire or an up-to-four-hour hire.
We’re visiting the Yarra Valley. Do we need to bring any equipment?
No. Your kayak, paddle and lifejacket are supplied and the kayak is brought to the lake for you. Simply send us a booking request before your visit and arrive ready to get on the water.
